Always remember... the Noisy Miner (Manorina melanocephala) is native, the Indian Myna (Acridotheres tristis) is not. Public need to be careful not to confuse the two.

Good followup Susan... recent and topical latest research that is important not only to gardeners, but to farmers, government chemical licensing boards, environmental groups and our future. Companies that sell this product should reassess their position regarding this chemical and consider what the general consensus and concern is around the world.

Potatoes are a natural wonder-food rich in potassium, vitamin C, folate and are completely fat and cholesterol free, and with this in mind people should not avoid this healthy vegetable as suggested in new dietary guidelines.

The NHMRC have done a fantastic job in a really difficult area. They’ve walked a fine line between giving practical versus overly scientific advice.

If I had to split hairs, then I would say that there is not enough scientific evidence to say that solid foods that contain added sugars are any more harmful than foods that contain refined starch. They assume that starch, in all forms, does no harm. However, my area of research is in the glycaemic index (GI) and I think that high-GI starch is worse than added sugars.

In an earlier version, they recommended eating grains, preferably wholegrains, whereas now they are saying eat mostly wholegrains. I would have liked to see them come out a little stronger and say that we really should just be eating wholegrains as there is mounting evidence that refined grains cause harm.

I am 95 per cent happy with what has been said and think there is some incredibly helpful advice, particularly to those wanting to manage heart disease and diabetes.

Just wondering how you go about legally getting tomato seeds from the US?

The AQIS site says that they need to be accompanied by documentation because of the Pepino Mosaic Virus.

I've been trying to find an AUS supplier of Sungold and Yellow Brandywine... no luck so far.

Thanks Shelley. While we are on the mutual flattery road. Great article by Shelley here http://www.thesydneyinstitute.com.au/shelley-gare-blog/

Can I also add another dot point, or two, to your article re: comms officer:

Always ask what is your deadline, so that a reply can be delayed until after the said date.

Go on leave, leaving instructions for who to contact in your place, then have that next contact person go on leave, leaving instructions for another contact person. That person then asks you, what's your deadline, which is ignored, you follow up that person who then refers the matter back to the original person who, miraculously, is back from leave.

Love it! Cheers Shelley.
